We are are seeking original artwork from students to feature in our new museum. We are looking for landscape paintings of southeastern U.S. grasslands (prairies, barrens, glades, savannas). For examples of eastern grasslands to serve as inspiration, visit our website at www.segrasslands.org, look under galleries and you will see dozens of photographs representing different regions of the Southeast.

We are seeking signed paintings (oil, acrylic, or watercolor), pastels, or drawings with colored pencils. All artwork should be framed preferably with bright, colorful frames or black frames (please no brown wooden frames). They should be size 8 x 10" or larger. Participants should give their painting a short title such as "Prairie Fire" or "Sunset on the Prairie." We are looking for 30 paintings to create a large collage. Eligible participants should be upper elementary to high school age (age 8 and up).

The paintings will be on display as APSU hosts the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative Summit on Nov. 6-7. This summit will bring in conservationists from across the eastern U.S. After the summit, paintings will be judged in three age classes, elementary, middle, and high school. Young artists will be invited for a tour of the museum (date to be determined) and we will award prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place within each age class. First place winners will have their artwork featured on the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative homepage.

The deadline for submission is noon, Friday, Nov. 3. Please bring paintings to 317 College Street in the former Jenkins & Wynne Honda Dealership that is now part of APSU's campus. We will be available to receive paintings from noon-4:30 on Thursday, Nov. 2 and 9-4:30 on Friday, Nov. 3.
