Indigenous Land Stewardship technician

Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) Southeastern Grasslands Institute (SGI) invites applications for one seasonal Indigenous Land Stewardship Technician position to restore native grassland ecosystems throughout Middle Tennessee. This hands-on, field-based role involves invasive species control, seed collection, prescribed fire implementation, and other restoration activities under the oversight and training of the restoration team. SGI is especially seeking candidates with knowledge of, or strong connections to, Indigenous communities. A key part of this role is helping to reintroduce Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and Indigenous land stewardship practices into our restoration work. The position is located in Clarksville, TN (45 miles from Nashville, TN). This is a six-month position starting at $20 per hour for 37.5 hours per week. The Technician will receive daily direction from a Lead Restoration Technician, working as an integral part of the restoration Program.

Director, Communications

Austin Peay State University’s (APSU) Southeastern Grasslands Institute (SGI) invites applications for a Director of Communications hybrid position based in Clarksville, TN. This is a full-time, nontenure-track position. The Director of Communications plays a central role in advancing SGI’s mission by translating complex conservation science into compelling, accessible content that inspires action. This position is responsible for managing SGI’s day-to-day communications, growing its audience, and elevating its visibility among key stakeholders, including funders, partners, policymakers, and the public.
This role requires a creative storyteller, strong project manager, and strategic thinker who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. This position is grant-funded for three years, with future funding opportunities available. The Director of Communications will report directly to SGI’s Chief of Staff.
Key responsibilities include communications planning, content development & storytelling, digital & social media management, partnership & stakeholder communications, media & public relations, program & development support, and project management.
