about

Volunteer Program

The Southeastern Grasslands Institute recognizes that the strength of any conservation organization is credited in part to the success of its community engagement efforts. SGI’s Volunteer Program is rooted in the idea of thinking globally and acting locally. By joining us in hands-on restoration work, you’ll gain practical skills and knowledge that not only help restore native southeastern grasslands, but also equip you to make meaningful change in your own community and beyond. Explore the list of volunteer opportunities in our Community Projects section below

Laura Hunt is helping pave the way for volunteers to take part in meaningful grassland conservation efforts. If you have questions about current opportunities—or ideas you'd like to explore—feel free to reach out. Laura is always happy to support your interests and help you get involved. Contact Laura by email at Laura.Hunt@segrasslands.org.

We sowed seeds of flowering plants in the park’s new prairie. How delightful on a winter’s day to hold the promise of spring in my hands and imagine all the bees, butterflies, and birds to come!

Youth Outreach

Community engagement is for all ages, and we’re especially passionate about connecting with young people to inspire the next generation of conservationists. By learning to recognize and respect the balance of healthy ecosystems, younger community members take the first steps on a lifelong path of caring for the natural world and supporting sustainable conservation efforts.

Jodi Morgan heads up our youth outreach efforts through collaborations with the Cherokee Regional Library System, Cherokee County, GA. If you're curious about the topics Jodi has found to be most engaging—or if you're looking for recommended resources for your own projects—feel free to reach out to Jodi. She is always happy to chat and share helpful materials. Contact Jodi by email at Jodi.Morgan@segrasslands.org.
