Gabrielle Patterson, Ed.D., SGI Historian

 Gabrielle serves as the historian for SGI, specializing in environmental and Indigenous history. Her research focuses on the geographical distribution of grasslands in the southeastern United States and how the natural environment has influenced human activities. She has a deep interest in the history of Los Adaes, the El Camino Real de los Tejas, and East Texas due to her maternal connection to these places.

Gabrielle earned a Master of Arts in history with a concentration in Native American history, as well as a Master of Education in Community College Leadership. She also completed her Doctor of Education in Adult and Lifelong Learning, with a specialization in Adult Education Leadership, at the University of Arkansas.

In her personal time, Gabrielle enjoys golfing, hiking, hunting, traveling, and spending quality time with her two dogs, Sir Jasper and Lady Jewel. Additionally, she serves on a language committee dedicated to restoring Mobilian Jargon and plans to work on revitalizing Sabine River Spanish, the language spoken by her maternal great-grandparents.
